If your answer is yes to any of these questions, please consider volunteering for one of the Society’s committees. By volunteering on a committee you can become more active in SFM and help lead the future of the Society.
SFM is calling for volunteers for any of the following committees:
- Industry Advisory Board
- Marketing Committee
- Membership Committee
- Local Networking Groups Steering Committee
- Programs / Educational Development Committee
Involvement at the committee level is the best way to make valuable industry contacts and develop lasting professional relationships. Volunteer commitment will involve conference call attendance, as well as occasional project work.

Industry Advisory Board
Supports the Society's activities by providing trend information, resources, prestige, money, etc. to the Society. Must be committed to helping the members and their organizations drive performance through industry knowledge, professional expertise, open dialogue and mentoring.
Marketing Committee
Approves and advises on the marketing initiatives and activities of the Society to increase awareness of the association, attract new members and retain current members. The Marketing Committee will offer advice to ensure that SFM providing compelling and innovative promotional and marketing materials in order to enhance attendance at the SFM Critical Issues Conference and SFM National Conference.
Membership Committee
Recruits new members to the Society, serves to represent and monitor the needs of the existing membership, and ensures a strong membership structure and benefits package.
- Renewals Committee – Recruits new members to the Society with a focus on a specific membership type each year.
- Retention Committee – Works to retain SFM’s current membership by ensuring a strong membership benefits package.
Local Networking Groups Steering Committee
Develops and sets the direction for all SFM Local Networking Groups by establishing a program database and LNG guidelines. Oversees the following SFM Local Networking Groups:
- Boston
- Charlotte
- Chicago
- Northwest
- Washington DC
- Philadelphia
Programs / Educational Development Committee
Develops online learning and development opportunities for our members throughout the country through the following sub-committees:
- Body of Knowledge: Develops the key knowledge that is necessary for a career in onsite foodservice management that will be translated into an online wiki resource.
- Coaching Program/Young Professional Group: To provide support for professional development and growth within the foodservice industry to members of SFM by sharing expertise and experience through an organized coaching program.
